Bear viewing at Brooks Falls is usually at its peak in July and September and it’s all about the salmon. Sockeye swim upstream toward their spawning grounds, providing nutrient-rich food for angling bears, who feast on fatty skin, brains and roe, often leaving the salmon’s red flesh behind. Some bears may be present along the Brooks River in June and August, but don’t expect any bear jams.
